VivoTab from Asus
Published on December 26, 2012 By theAVMAN In Mobile Tech

I avoided the whole iPad surge patiently waiting on a fully functional Windows tablet. So for Christmas my wonderful wife decided I had waited long enough! The Surface was finally released and getting good reviews so right before ordering I (me being me ) decided I should do some investigating . I had been wanting an Asus tablet because I have an awesome Asus laptop that will smoke most desktop PC's that has giving me a ton of trouble free service.(second Asus laptop) The last few months I have been extremely busy not even much time to SKIN (errrrrr) . So I have been behind on all the latest releases and low and behold the new Asus Tab had been released . So I started the comparison process....

  1.  Price the same
  2.  Processor the same
  3.  Feature Asus had a slight edge ...built in gps sensor and a couple other Asus specifics
  4.  Keyboard this was the biggest difference thin flexible from Microsoft or rigid dock from Asus .. I like the dock if I am home stable is good on road no need!
  5.  However you have to mail in rebate to get the the keyboard free if purchased separate it is an additional $150

I am posting this from the tablet and all in all this is an amazing product faster than the iPads I have used (quadcore processor) beautiful graphics lightweight gorgeous product with full Windows, windows live ,sky drive integration. I have only spent a couple hours on it so far and haven't even run out 1battery charge yet but I will post more of my impressions as time permits.

Now if I could only SKIN Windows 8 I'd be ecstatic!!!

Same here... never fancied one anyway.  I do, however, have an Android tablet that I hope soon to replace with a Windows 8 tablet, whether it be a MS Surface or another brand, I'm not sure yet.  In any event, it will be a Win 8 tablet that I can sync with my Win 8 PC and phone.

I hope to do the same , I have a Windows phone but it is 7.5, which due to Windows live account which is where all your contacts backup to is syncing with the tablet perfectly but there are some options not available till I move to win8 on the phone. Still on win 7 on my PC and will probably not go to Win8 until Stardock says Object Desktop is working on win8 so I can have windowblinds .

😊

my brother and i are going to the ms store and frys in indy saturday. i might purchase and surface tablet at teh ms store. if not, maybe another win 8 tablet at frys. well, actually, we will stop at frys first to see what they have in tablets and greg wants a new case then we'll go to the ms store. if i don't care for the surface (unlikely to happen) we will return to frys.

Thanks Harley. This is more than a TIP to me and will take this into consideration when buying a new Tablet.

I was a bit too impatient to wait for WindowBlinds when my copy of Win 8 finished downloading.  I had been using the Customer Preview and just wanted to install the full release to make the transition from Win 7 complete.  I still have 7 on a PC upstairs but it never gets used anymore, that's how good I feel Win 8 is for my day to day PC needs.  As for WB, it's not essential to my daily computing and I'll manage without until it's Win 8 ready.

Oh yeah. Harley, when you're in the market for a new phone, take a look at the Nokia Lumia 820 or 920. Both are great Win 8 phones and would serve you well.  I have the Lumia 820 and totally love it.  Not that I've ad a lot of mobile phones, but it is definitely the best I've had thus far.  Check out this thread Island Dog started for more info, it has links to Nokia for more detailed specs, etc

Well it isn't!  I can still do everything I want and need to do without it.

Would I rather have WB installed?  Sure would, but it isn't quite ready for my OS of choice so I'll have to wait.

It could be worse... I could be stuck with a feching Mac.

Or Linux.

Or Linux.

But Kona swears by Linux.....when he's using Windows....

...or is swears at Windows when he's using Linux.....

...something like that....

Or....it is possible that he has simply misplaced it somewhere.

Hmmm, perhaps that should be past tense... as in his post above suggests it has already occurred.

He can be somewhat excused, however, it is, after all, the Silly Season.

Me, I don't need excuses.  I never had a firm grasp or otherwise on the 'plot'

A windows 8 tab is in my near future. I have a ASUS TF Android TAB but I just never liked it to much. About the only thing I use it for any more is reading kindle books before going to sleep. I will hand it down to my son who is an android fan.

Nice purchase, Harley..........I swear by ASUS gear..........Most of the computer stuff that I've bought over the years is ASUS........Quality gear........I just handed down a five year old ASUS laptop to my youngest boy - who is also 5 years old - and after adding some more ram and a clean install it's going like a train..........but alas - for this time only - I have just deserted ASUS and become a Toshiba Qosmio 'whore'..........Could not resist the Qosmio style, i7 quad core, 18.4 inch screen.........reconditioned and I purchased it for $500..........was $1900 new 9 months ago.........a real bargain!
