Uvah I dont use PS often but I believe you need to turn off global light setting,It is in the layer style panel! Right beside the 90degree setting in your bottom screen shot !
Then each effect is independent!
^ what he said.

Them gonna hit me ...... he he. Thanks. I didn't know that. All this time playing with it and the simplest things escape me. I'm going back into the psd and do it all over. If I remember correctly the settings are a bit ... skewed. No wonder I'm goin' nuts.
Uvah....if you copy/pasted a piece of the bar into the 'square bit' you'd see the gradiens/shadows would be different than how you have them...but they would then show as similar 3D shapes of curve, etc.
Or try it in reverse...copy/paste the gradient in the square bit into the main bar...and see its difference.
As they are they read as two quite different forms...yet you appear to be trying to have them the same. Heck...they are almost trying to read as concave, not convex.
Now there's a thought. I'll do that. Thanks Jafo.
Magnification at 300% The white rectangle is part of the square bit. Copy/paste takes the bevel/emboss and gradient out of it. Its like it wasn't even there.
Re-did the background. Global light turned off.
Little more work on the overlay bits
To add to my last comment.... the main bar is bright/light where the upper part of the square bits is very dark....the sort of thing that implies they are hollow and thus in shadow...though the lower part of of the square bits is dark - matching the lower edge of the main bar and is thus equally convex....so the overall lighting of the square bits are confusing - in conflict.
The 'solution' is to lighten the top shadow section of the square bits...to reinforce the appearance/representation of a convex form.
The only real time you can have that effect of altered shadow is if the square bits are themselves self-lit and forcing a shadow change... like you get with glass/chrome reflections, etc. Then you get 'hard'/dark sections in 'odd' places....
update - resized to 800x500 - more adjustments, more tweaking. Added some, deleted some. Getting there.
Liberty IX............ Might actually get to release this one!! It has some special titlebar buttons.....
Why does PhotoBucket reduce my images to 1697x954 when it's supposed to be 1920x1080???? Grrrrrrrrr..........
Liberty IX looks great!
Looks great, Bryan!
